APTV CarPlay – Rotary controller support for Browser/WebView on non-touch displays

Hi! I use APTV on CarPlay in a BMW F20 with a non-touchscreen display, controlled through the BMW iDrive rotary controller. The APTV native CarPlay interface works correctly with the iDrive controller. However, when I open Quick → Browser and access YouTube, I cannot select or navigate any elements inside the webpage, such as video thumbnails, the search bar, buttons, or the on-screen keyboard. The webpage seems to require touchscreen input and the rotary controller cannot move the focus between HTML/WebView elements. It would be very useful to add support for non-touch CarPlay systems, for example: • Allow the rotary controller to move the focus between clickable elements inside the WebView. • Pressing the rotary controller could act as a tap/click. • Alternatively, add a virtual mouse/cursor mode controlled by the rotary controller. This would make the new CarPlay Browser usable on BMW iDrive and other CarPlay systems without touchscreen support. Thank you!

Hi, I’m using APTV on CarPlay with a Nissan Patrol Y63, and the new browser feature works very well, including YouTube browsing and touch controls directly on the car screen. The only issue is video scaling. Even with Fill Window enabled, the video does not fully fill the available CarPlay display area, and pinch-to-zoom does not work inside the browser. Could you please add one of these options for the CarPlay browser/video player: * Pinch-to-zoom support * Zoom controls such as 100% / 110% / 125% / 150% * Video scaling modes: Fit / Fill / Crop * A “Zoom to Fill” option that enlarges 16:9 video to use the maximum available CarPlay screen area The touchscreen itself works perfectly for tapping and scrolling, so adding browser/video zoom would make APTV almost perfect for CarPlay video use.

The next version of APTV will support using the browser on CarPlay head units without a touchscreen.
