CarPlay Browser – rotary knob cannot navigate webpage content
Mercedes-Benz C180 2015 with non-touchscreen display and COMAND rotary controller.
APTV iOS 1.5.11.
The rotary knob works correctly throughout the native APTV CarPlay interface and also controls the Browser toolbar (address bar, Back, Home, etc.).
However, focus cannot enter the webpage/WebView. Links, buttons, forms and video thumbnails inside websites cannot be selected with the rotary controller.
This is not specific to YouTube. The same behavior occurs on aptv.app and other websites.

Direct interaction with webpage content in CarPlay using a rotary controller or touchpad is currently not supported. The browser is better suited to touch input. However, APTV offers an alternative: select the More Actions button in the top-right corner of the browser. From there, you can select elements on the current page and activate them to navigate.
